First day of Kindergarten. (Sorry most are upside down- Once I figure out how to put them right side up, I will fix them........)
First Full Day of Kindergarten.... We were HOT, but kept the shades down, 2/3 of the lights off and had a nice "water" break. We drew about our hopes for Kindergarten, visited the Library and Art room, had snack, and buddy "read" (told each other stories by looking at the pictures in books). Lots more learning and fun to come!!
2nd Full Day of Kindergarten ...We explored with manipulatives, created self-portraits (hanging up on the bulletin board in the room) while learning how to care for our markers in the classroom, we used our water bottles to compare length, we learned all about shape names ( as well as counted sides and vertices) with pattern blocks, danced to a "Dinosaur-Hexagon" shape song & SO MUCH MORE!!
Our class letter quilt (featuring the first letter of everyone's names) is now hanging in the window.

3rd Full Day of Kindergarten:
Week 2: All About the 3 Little Pigs! We used white boards to practice pre-writing shapes/lines, acted out the 3 Little Pigs, played I Have Who Has (IHWH), worked with shapes on the smartboard AND SO MUCH MORE!
Week 3: Goldilocks and The Three Bears. We created our crafts/props to use to act out the story. Each group acts out the story & has so much fun retelling the story! We created a graph of all our ages in class & found out that right now everyone is 5! We had a special number of "5" and used materials at our tables to build with only 5 items at a time. We drew plans to make Baby Bear a new chair as Goldilocks broke his chair. Then, we watched a short movie about how people really DO make chairs. Next, we used our plans to create chairs using play-dough and sticks. Take a look at how the children were concentrating and planning their chair construction. They were extremely proud they could build chairs! The last 4 pictures show us using the document camera to show student work on the smart board. We used 5 frames to examine how we can show numbers different ways. For example, 4 can be 2 and 2 or 3 and 1, etc.
Week 4: Billy Goats Gruff- We all finger painted a mask for reenacting our story this week. We played I Have Who Has (IHWH) Shapes. Can your child name all of the shapes? We created repeating and growing patterns with pattern blocks & on the smart board. We acted out our story & tried a new-to-us activity on our white boards- making goats using the site Art Hub for Kids. They are all different and FUN! We started our grass growing experiment to see if grass grows better with sun or shade. We had Bus Safety w/ Mr. Braga & Officer Perry! AND, of course, SO MUCH MORE!!!!!!!
Magic Tree House Book: The Knight At Dawn..............
We have been busy!!! We are working on orally breaking up words into sounds. We'll say the whole word "cat" then wither jump, tap, or push objects to represent each sound.... /c/, /a/, /t/. We continue to play 'I have, Who has' to learn letter names and sounds. We worked on the representing numbers, told number stories using Corduroy (the bear), built castles, and grew grass! Our grass grew VERY quickly this year & we recoded our data in our science journals. We sorted and resorted objects and talked about how we could classify them in many different ways. We played a game using 5 and 10 frames. We used catapults to examine how far items would travel if they were heavy or light. We learned about Columbus and how we know when something is a rectangle. We hope you enjoy or pictures from these last 3 weeks!
