BRAIN BREAKS
Thank you to Gina Alexander, OTR/L, Seekonk Public Schools, Occupational Therapist for providing the following: In school, we work hard to make sure our students are ready for learning. We often use movement activities before, between, or after learning tasks to ensure that our brains and bodies are ready. Try some of the attached activities for fun and/or while learning at home!
Mrs. Alexander suggests these sites for fine motor/hand strengthening resources:

"Hello parents,
This week's focus is on visual motor skills or activities that use the eyes and hands together. In case you do not have access to a printer, these two links have activities that you can easily create at home. The attachments also have ideas of activities that you can recreate or that can be printed if you are able to do so.
As always, please feel free to email or request a phone call if you have any questions or comments!

These activities focus on self-help skills for increasing independence at home and at school. Some of these skills your child may have already mastered, but I am including them all here as a reference or for additional practice!
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please contact me via email and I can either email you back or give you a call. Thank you!

The attached slides are about fine motor skills and all of the components that go into developing those skills. It was created by my colleague, Stefanie Lombardi, COTA/L. In addition, I am sharing a video that I found with a song that may be familiar to your child. I often use the "matman" song to teach and reinforce how to draw people with all of the body parts. "Matman" is an activity that I borrowed from the Handwriting Without Tears program. For older students, I ask them to add more details such as hair and clothes when they are done. As always, let me know if you have any questions!

I made a video with some games to play using clothespins. Clothespins are great because they work on getting finger muscles stronger! And if you pinch using the thumb and index finger, you are also working on pencil grip. I referenced this dinosaur template in the video, but feel free just to draw your own!

have attached a video and a packet of cutting activities. If you are unable to print, you can just draw some lines or pictures the way I did in the video. The video starts with beginning cutting and moves up to cutting out shapes, which is a mid-to-late kindergarten skill (approximate developmental ages are in the packet, along with some tips).

I made a video for you with different ideas about how to use the attached push pin activity sheets. If you do not have a printer, I have shared some ways to draw your own shapes and complete that way! Also, If you do not have pushpins, you can use toothpick, glue, or q-tips and paint! Have fun!

**I also created a coding activity. First, practice the shapes circle, square, x, and triangle using the ideas from above. Then look at the code at the top of the page and fill in the blanks with shapes that match the corresponding letter from the code!**
